Ravikumar’s directorial career started with Puriyaadha Pudhir who is primarily based on Kollywood cinema. His films include a mixture of genres, ranging from comedy and drama to action thrillers. Ravikumar is one of the brilliant,over-confidenct and multi-talented film director. He hails from Chennai and He graduated in digital film technology in 1985.
From 1985 to 1990, he was an assistant Director to prominent film director Bharathi Raja before breaking on his own in 1989. Also he worked as an assistant director to Vikraman in the film Pudhu Vasantham. Ravikumar also landed himself with the major task of directing Rajinikanth in Muthu which he did successfully and therefore many other offers other than those with Sarath Kumar
arrived his way including films with Akkineni Nagarjuna, Chiranjeevi, Kamal Haasan, Ajith and Madhavan.
He called as Entertainment Director in Tamil Cinema. He has directed numerous films ranging from comedy and drama to action thrillers. His film Dasavathaaram (2008) went on to gross $ 16 million worldwide in the first four weeks and eventually became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. His latest movie is Ranaa about to release soon in 2016.
