Highways Dept to extend Marine Drive to reduce congestion

The Ministry of Higher Education and Highways has decided to extend Samudra Mawatha on Marine Drive to reduce the traffic congestion caused by vehicles entering Colombo along the Galle road. Thereby, the Marine drive from Wellawatta to Colpitty will be expanded to Dehiwala and Galle Face. Meanwhile, the Highways Ministry stated that the construction of a Highway from Matara to Hambantota has commenced under four stages.

Secretary to the Ministry said that the construction of the highways has been handed over to three Chinese companies.


The cost for the project stands at Rs.242 billion
