I Don't Know About proposed SL-India tunnel - Minister Kiriella

Minister of Highways and Higher Education, Lakshman Kiriella says that he is unaware of the proposed tunnel construction between Sri Lanka and India.

However, Minister of Transport to India Nitin Gadkari stated that a sea-bridge and tunnel will be constructed connecting India’s Rameshwaram with Sri Lanka’s Talaimannar, as it was decided in the Indian Lok Sabha held recently.

Commenting on this issue Minister of Highways and the Higher Education  says that he saw this in the newspapers and have not been informed about this from India.

The Minister also added that they Ministry has not given any thought to that, and the fundamental of responsibility of his responsibility is to build the roads and bridges in the country.

He went onto note that they need to complete the Colombo – Kandy and Ratnapura Expressway.
