Two traffic cops hospitalized after shooting at Dalugama

Two policemen have been wounded and hospitalized following a shooting incident near Bulugaha Junction in Dalugama on the Colombo-Kandy main road.

Police said that a traffic collision involving a car and lorry had occurred at Bulugaha Junction at around 3.00pm today (31).

However, when both parties involved were preparing to leave after amicably resolving the matter, an unidentified gunman had arrived and suddenly opened fire at the car driver.

The driver immediately got into his car and drove off while two traffic policemen arrived at the scene and gave chase to the shooter.

During the chase, the suspect had also fired several shots at the policemen, who have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with gunshot wounds.

Police are still unaware whether the driver of the car, who was initially targeted by the gunman, was injured in the shooting as he had fled the scene right away.

The reason for the shooting incident is yet to be ascertained.
