Volvo promises ‘Death-Proof’ cars in their 2020 car line-up

Swedish car maker ‘Volvo’ has promised the world that their range of cars by the year 2020, will not have any fatal accidents. Not even a serious injury.

It is not surprising for Volvo to make such a claim as the company has built its reputation on safety to a point where car enthusiasts refer to Volvo cars as ‘Tanks’.

“A world where nobody dies in car accidents is closer than most people think” – Says Volvo.
“If you meet Swedish engineers, they’re pretty genuine. They don’t say things when they don’t believe in it” Lex Kerssemakers, CEO of Volvo Cars North America told CNN.

warn drivers when they drift out of their lanes. Detectors can even pick up on a drowsy driver’s subtle changes in behavior to indicate it’s time for a break.

‘The long term vision is that cars shouldn’t crash,’ said Volvo spokesman Jim Trainor.
Volvo has been developing “no death” cars since as early as 2012, and said at the time that state-of-the-art technology stood to make that a reality by the end of the decade.

The Swedish company wants its future 2020 car line-up to incorporate the already-in-use adaptive cruise control, as well as a feature that will keep cars from drifting in-and-out of lanes, others that will detect pedestrians and large animals, and a “collision avoidance” function that will rely on radar, cameras and other sensors to detect obstacles, CNN reported.

Statistics maintained by ‘Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’ has made a revelation that nine vehicles including the Volvo XC90 have had zero driver fatalities during the last four years.
The new autonomous technology in Volvo cars will allow drivers to, not only set the car to travel on a certain route allowing them to sit back and relax, but also letting the driver set the navigation time to the same as the length of a TV show or movie so that the driver will be done watching by the time the vehicle reach its destination.

That certainly is some pretty fancy tech in a car which will also, fingers-crossed, will be one of the safest places to be.
