Lorry crashes into train

A lorry was badly damaged after it crashed into a train plying from Matale to Kandy at a railway crossing at Siyabalagastenna. This accident took place around 5.15 a.m.

Police said the accident had taken place due to the railway gateman's failure to close the gate. Residents said the train rammed into the lorry dragging it along for about 100 metres before coming to a halt. The driver and the assistant of the lorry escaped unhurt.
