Nation prepares to celebrate 68th Independence Day

Preparations for the 68th Independence Day celebrations took place at the Galle Face Green on February 3. Several new features have been included in this year’s Independence Day celebrations.

The parade will see the participation of the tri-forces, police and the Civil Defence Force, as well as the bands of the  tri-forces. Aircraft belonging to the Air Force, ships and boats from the Navy as well as military vehicles and equipment from the Army, will add colour to the event.

Meanwhile, a presidential pardon has been granted to a number of prisoners in order to free them, in line with 68th Independence Day celebrations.

Commissioner General of Prisons, Nishath Dhanasinghe said that the selected group of prisoners will be freed upon a written presidential pardon.

Dhanasinghe announced that the name lists of the selected prisoners had been sent to all prisons in the country.
